:: General Info ::

Forestry, Agriculture, Animal and Fishery Network (FAAFNET), is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded in December 1997 and was legally recognized under Cameroon Law No. 90/053 of 19th December 1990 on Association. Its Head Quarters is in Buea, the Provincial capital of South West Province, Cameroon. FAAFNET was approved by the Ministry of Territorial Administration through Prefectorial Order No. 560/G.37/D.14/Vol.T/T/OAPP of 4th August 1998 in Fako Division of the South Wet Province.

FAAFNET was created with the focus on educating and empowering local farmers and villagers in maximizing the sustainable usage of their natural resources and the promotion of alternative income generating activities.

FAAFNET is an umbrella Organisation that comprises of groups involved in different activities that are related to the conservation of biological diversity/natural resources management, alternative income generating activities and community self-reliant programmes. FAAFNET teaches non-exploitative farming techniques, also helping indigenous peoples improve traditional land usage by introducing accepted technologies and more up-to-date systems of conservation.

FAAFNET encompasses outreach programmes in the areas of agroforestry, beekeeping, crop production, livestock and inland fishery management. The Organisation also helps to educate local women’s groups, youth groups, community-based organization, private institutions, schools, Common Initiative Groups, Economic Interest Groups and Cooperatives; supporting leaders and managerial staffs in creating programmes and assisting these groups in environmental education, entrepreneurship and community development.

There are few income opportunities for small-scale farmers in the rural areas of the Mount Cameroon region, most of whom simply grow crops for their own subsistence and while some sell surplus production of food crops through the local market. Their small land-size and the lack of access to capital and the absence of a stable and guaranteed market have all prevented them from being able to climb out of their poverty.

Therefore, the partnership target between FAAFNET and various development sector organizations provides them with a good opportunity to get involved in sustainable management of natural resources, livestock production, crop production, beekeeping as income generating opportunities, thereby helping them to reduce their poverty margin.

A few Experts and temporal International Volunteers have assisted the Organisation in the area of capacity building. There are opportunities are open to International Volunteers on Internship or Research Programmes to work with the Organisation. Our target population is very welcoming to such persons who in return benefit from their experience.
