(a) Environmental Management
Activities:
- Environmental Education
- Create awareness on Ozone, Climate Change, Disaster (Natural) Management and Waste Sewage Disposal
- Landscape Management
- Management of watershed/catchment areas
- Sustainable utilisation of wetland resources including(mangrove ecosystem)
- Create awareness on man-made disasters: fire, deforestation etc.
- Sustainable land use management
Achievements:
- We have participated during public manifestations related to the Environment: During the World Environment Day, Biodiversity Day, Water Day, Wetlands Day, Earth Day, we sensitize the public on the importance of the environment and carry out practical exercises by mobilizing the population to clear garbage heaps and plant trees in collaboration with some institutions like schools and communities. During such occasions we carry out exhibitions and participate in manifestations culminating such events.
- We have carried out surveys on areas where natural disasters have occurred (eruptions, landslides, earthquakes and floods) within the communities around the Mount Cameroon region.
- We are currently working with local communities by carrying out sensitization campaigns through seminars, workshops and meetings on related environmental issues.
- We are closely collaborating with local technical services of the Ministry Environment and Nature Protection, where we have participated in local and national seminars, workshops and meetings.
- We have created Environmental/Nature Clubs in 3 Schools.
- Sensitized the population on man-made disasters e.g. fire at Great Soppo and Molyko in Buea, Mount Cameroon, especially the loss of flora and fauna caused by wild fire made by hunters and wild honey collectors and pollution (location of fuel stations and their drains).
- Working with 5 communities on the sustainable management of their watersheds/catchment.
- We are presently negotiating with some municipal councils and the Ministry of Urban Affairs authorities on “Greeting Our Municipalities Initiative”.
- Working with some municipal councils and Urban Affairs authorities in sensitizing the public on pollution from carwash, garages, waste disposals in communities, especially in urban areas where users wash their cars and others dispose their waste in streams.
- Donated 300 Sidrella tree seedlings to Bishop Rogan College for the woodlot fuel plantation.
- Participated in a Provincial workshop on the Management of Hallons at the Limbe Botanic Gardens sponsored by the National Ozone Programme at Ministry of Environment and Forestry
- Participated in the launching workshop of the Project on the Participative Management and Conservation of Biological Diversity of Mangrove Swamps held at the Atlantic Beach Hotel – Limbe sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and FAO.
- Participated in a seminar on the validation of Cameroon’s report on the ratification of the UN Convention on Desertification.

- Over 500 farmers reached so far
- More than 20 groups made of women, men and youths have been created and some are being assisted with material inputs (maize, beans, cassava cuttings, plantain suckers, sweet potatoes vines etc.)
- 5 agroforestry demonstration farms already established (both in schools and communities)
- Organised and sponsored farmers to several seminars and workshops
- In collaboration with ICRAF-AHT trained 5 youths on Agroforestry (Fruits and Medicinal plants) propagation.
- 20 farmers have been trained on Fruit Trees and Medicinal plants (Tree Domestication).
- 50 farmers have been trained on seed multiplication (maize, yams, cassava, plantains and bananas).
- 5 women groups have established vegetable farms.
- Working with some primary and secondary schools on “School Gardens Based Learning Initiative” to create awareness on food security both at school and at home.
- We are presently training 5 youths on Agroforestry techniques for the establishment of small and medium enterprises in a bid to boost the informal sector.
- FAAFNET in collaboration with ICRAF organized a five-day Provincial Workshop on Tree Domestication at Bokova Village – Buea
- Donated 25 tree seedlings (Calliandria) to the Ekona Mbenge community to be planted in their traditional shrine.
- Assisted in the organization and facilitation of a Farmers’ Forum at Bokova Village organized by “THE FARMERS VOICE” - SAILD Yaounde. There were 50 participants at this seminar and they discussed on common farming problems and exchanged experience on how to solve them.
- Participated in the national planning seminar on Food Security in Cameroon in preparation of the 21st African Forum on Food Security held in Yaounde
(c) Livestock and Fishery
Activities:
- Animal Production (Pigs, Goats, Poultry, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Snails)
- Fish Farming (Fish Pond Management)
- Common animal and bird diseases

(i) Livestock:
- 10 groups are already practicing improved livestock farming
- Some 100 farmers have so far been trained
- Created awareness on common animal and bird diseases (African Swine Fever, Avian Influenza etc.) within 5 communities.
- Working with a network of 200 livestock farmers
- Provided 3 piglets and feed to Integrated Mountain Farmers Group Bonakanda Village.
(ii) Fisheries:
- 20 farmers trained in fish farming
- 3 established groups have created and managing their fish ponds well.
(d) Sustainable Beekeeping
Activities:
- Encourage sustainable beekeeping activities to reduce forest degradation through bush fire by wild honey collectors
- Encourage women and youths in modern beekeeping
- Promote low cost technology development
- Research on various beekeeping issues (bees, pollination, melliferous plants etc)
- Promote the production, extraction/processing, packaging, transformation and marketing of honey and other bee products (beeswax, pollen and propolis)
Achievements:
- Trained over 200 beekeepers on various aspects of beekeeping (construction of hives,apiary management, production and transformation of bee products: honey, beeswax, pollen and propolis)
- 4 women groups are involved in modern beekeeping
- Hire out (free) beekeeping equipment to farmers during honey harvesting (smokers and bee suites)
- Facilitated the creation and legalisation of a network of beekeepers (Fako Beekeepers Union – FABEESUN)
- 20 groups assisted (technically or materially)
- 10 training workshops in communities
- Created a team of local trainers
- 3 schools have started Beekeeping and created Clubs with apiaries and having a membership of 150 students.
- Created awareness on beekeeping related activities to over 1,000 pupils/students

-Sponsored group members to participate/exhibitation of local Agriculture Shows, Rural Women Day and other public manifestations.
- 5 Beekeeping Experts from Europe (Britain, France and Netherlands) have worked with FAAFNET in the area of beekeeping (hive models, bee biology and apiary management etc.)
- Participated and exhibited at the first ever organized Honey Show in Cameroon at Limbe in 2002.We also provided resource person during working sessions.

- Identified some farmers who have planted some medicinal plants, specially the Prunus africana
- Trained 20 Ecoguides from different Tourism/Ecotourism organizations within the Mount Cameroon region.
- Sensitized 5 communities on the sustainable utilization of NTFPs (spices, honey, vegetables etc.
- Identified some Ecotouristic potentials of the coastal mountain regions and other areas in the South West Province
- Partnership agreements with some local Ecotourism organizations are being negotiated
- Working with 5 Villages Wildlife Committees
- Donated 2,000 seeds to the Bimbia Bonadikombo Community Forestry Natural Resource Management Committee Limbe to boost their Agroforestry Programme (bee fodder, nitrogen fixation etc.)
- As part of sustainable use of Non Timber Forest Products, we have identified and encouraged some local crafts men and women who are using some species of plants and trees in their craftwork: weaving, carving, local textile fabrication etc. We are encouraging them to create a network where they could increase their activities and sales of their craft items.
- Participated in the Forest Good Governance Workshop organized by the South West Civil Society Network sponsored by SNV Bamenda Highland Project and Forest Governance Facility (FGF) Yaounde.
- Participated in the seminar on the introduction of Forestry Atlas of Cameroon at the Limbe Botanic Gardens organized by Global Forestry Watch.
(f) Women Empowerment
Activities:
- To assist the rural and urban poor women to set-up groups that will boost self-reliant development
- To stimulate and encourage women in recognition and acceptance of their responsibilities to their communities as partners in sustainable development.
- To empower women with skills on income generating activities (market gardening, animal husbandry, beekeeping, enterprise development etc.)
- To involve women in decision making within rural and urban structures.
Achievements:
- More than 200 women have been reached
- Carried out capacity building on income generating activities: vegetable, maize, cassava, beekeeping and small scale animal production
- Carried out two seminars on group dynamics: leadership, record keeping and conflict management)
- Sensitized and sponsored women groups to participate in Rural Women’s Day, International Day of the Woman ceremonies
- Organised a seminar on “Empowering Grassroot Women in Biodiversity Conservation”, with a participation of 50 women
- Given talks to the Catholic Women Association (CWA) in Buea on income generating activities, nutrition and the importance of honey in health
- Sensitized and created Local Aids Committees of 5 women groups within communities in Buea Sub Division.
- A delegation of 40 women and students from the USA who were on an exchange visit to Cameroon, visited some of our Women Groups in Bokova and Bokwaongo Villages and they were shown a yam and vegetable farm, bee farm and a piggry.

Activities:
- To train and assist youths to carry out income generating/wealth creation activities (agriculture, beekeeping, agroforestry, animal husbandry etc)
- Encourage youths on Small and Medium enterprises Management.
- To work with primary and secondary schools on revitalizing school gardens and Environmental Education
- Assist underprivileged children/orphans with basic schools needs
- To encourage youths on local volunteerism

- 5 youth groups trained on group dynamics: leadership, record keeping and conflict management)

So far we have sensitized over 1000 who were directly or indirectly involved on Club activities. - A documentation centre has been set up and serves as a useful Resource Centre for staff and public (researchers, professional students/trainees, development workers etc.)
- Built the capacity of 5 communities on HIV/AIDS and created Local AIDS Committee
- Participated in a two-week course for Extension Officers on the Production of Gender Sensitive Communication Tools for Sustainable Agriculture, the Environment and National Resources Managmenet at Pan African Institute for Development – West Africa, Buea - Cameroon sponsored by the Gender and Development Fund, Canada
- Participated in HIV/AIDS training workshops organized by Provincial Technical Group for the fight against HIV/AIDS sponsored by CARE Cameroon
- Sensitized 5 communities on HIV/AIDS Voluntary Councelling and Testing sponsored by the Provincial Technical Group for the fight against HIV/AIDS
- Participated in a workshop on Communication and Media Tools in Development organized by South West Civil Society Network (SWECSON) sponsored by SNV Bamenda Highland Project.
- Participated in a two-week course on NGO Management at the Pan African Institute for Development – West Africa, Buea – Cameroon sponsored by The Center for International Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State of Israel.
